Abstract: This study examines issues of Qur’anic readings (qirāʾāt) as presented by the French orientalist Régis Blachère in his book The Qur’an: Its Revelation, Compilation, Translation, and Influence, and compares them with the treatment of the same issues by the German orientalist Theodor Nöldeke in his work The History of the Qur’an. The aim is to uncover the methodological differences between the two scholars in addressing this subject and to clarify the problematic assumptions embedded in their views. The study is structured into an introduction and three main sections: the first is devoted to presenting Blachère’s discussion of the qirāʾāt, the second to Nöldeke’s treatment of the same issues, and the third to a comparative analysis of the two orientalists in terms of methodology and approach. The significance of this topic lies in its connection to the critique of orientalist discourse on the Qur’an and its sciences, particularly regarding the qirāʾāt, which are among the most frequently contested issues and are often used to raise doubts about the integrity of the Qur’anic text. This makes their study and critical evaluation a scholarly and methodological necessity. The research adopts descriptive, analytical, and comparative approaches. It concludes that Nöldeke provided a broader treatment of the qirāʾāt and relied more extensively on classical Islamic sources, whereas Blachère’s discussion was less detailed. Despite this difference, both scholars employ the subject of Qur’anic readings as an entry point for raising doubts about the Qur’an. The study recommends expanding critical research on orientalist writings, particularly those related to the Qur’an and its sciences, with the aim of exposing their methodologies, responding to their claims, and safeguarding researchers from their influence
