This article examines the deprivation of Algerian nationality in light of the amendments introduced by the Algerian legislature through Law No. 26-01. Under this amendment, the legislature expanded the grounds for deprivation of Algerian nationality, making it a discretionary measure applicable to both nationality by origin and acquired nationality alike. The law also establishes the substantive conditions under which nationality may be withdrawn, in addition to introducing the principal procedural requirements governing the implementation of this measure, notably through the creation of a Special Committee within the Ministry of Justice and the establishment of legal safeguards to regulate its application. The study demonstrates that the legislative amendment places particular emphasis on the principle of allegiance to the State as the foundation for the continuity of nationality, considering nationality to be a legal bond between the individual and the State. At the same time, it highlights the necessity of strengthening judicial oversight as an essential safeguard for maintaining a balance between the requirements of national security and the protection of fundamental rights.
