This article analyses the Chinese perspective on Franco-Algerian relations during the Algerian Revolution, focusing on the FLN's management of the independence negotiations and the post-independence period. It is based on the viewpoints of various Chinese decision-makers, particularly Minister Zhou Enlai, who was the architect of Chinese foreign policy under Mao Zedong. The study demonstrates the scope of this realistic and forward-thinking vision, which was influenced by the nature and development of bilateral relations between China and France, as well as between China and the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (PGAR) and the fledgling Algerian state. It also considers this vision within a global context, which was initially marked by the intensity of the East-West conflict and later by international détente.
