This article explores quest and individuation in Virginia Woolf’s "The New Dress," focusing on the female hero through Campbell’s Monomyth theory and Jung’s Model of the Psyche. It delves into an inward psychological journey as the female protagonist confronts fears and societal conflicts, using the female hero archetype to transcend struggles. The analysis illustrates the fulfillment of the individuation process, where hindrances in the journey signify evidence of psychic disintegration. Narrative elements like interior monologue and third-person omniscient narrative are crucial for discerning inner turmoil. Resolving conflicts involves accepting darker aspects of the psyche, reconciling forces, and acknowledging the reality of fate.
