This paper presents a comprehensive theoretical review of the role of working memory and attention as primary cognitive indicators in explaining dyscalculia among primary school children. The central research question addresses how deficits in working memory and attention contribute to the emergence and cognitive profiling of dyscalculia. The paper reviews foundational concepts, theoretical frameworks, and explanatory models in this field, while examining findings from recent Arabic and international studies linking these two cognitive variables to arithmetic disorders. The review concludes that deficits in the phonological loop and central executive components of working memory, combined with impaired selective and sustained attention, represent key indicators that can inform early diagnosis and the design of intervention programs.
