Poétique Du Rythme Dans ça Raconte Sarah : Une Traduction Du Trauma / The Poetics Of Rhythm In ça Raconte Sarah: A Translation Of Trauma

Auteurs : Baldin Emmy .

Abstract : This article examines the poetics of rhythm in Ça raconte Sarah (2018), the first novel by Pauline Delabroy-Allard, by considering rhythm as a possible mode of translating trauma. It explores romantic love and mourning as traumatic experiences, narrated through a reconstructed present in which the trauma is continually re-enacted. The text thus brings to light mechanisms characteristic of post-traumatic shock, such as repetition compulsion, as well as traces of the affected body, perceptible in the narrative’s aesthetic and formal choices. This reading engages in dialogue with psychoanalytic theories—particularly those of Sigmund Freud—in order to connect narrative techniques with representations of the unconscious. It also draws on work from translation studies and rhythm criticism, especially that of Henri Meschonnic and Pier-Pascale Boulanger, concerning the materiality of language, as well as trauma studies, notably those of Cathy Caruth. The approach is thus both psychoanalytic and poetic, showing how textual rhythm conveys and figures traumatic experience while also constituting, for the narrator, a space in which to reconstitute herself as the subject.
