Authors : Zedira Charef Eddine . Debbiche Khalid . Haddad Ammar .

Abstract

Abstract :The management of biomedical equipment represents a major expenditure for healthcare institutions, with direct impacts on care quality and organisational efficiency. Objective: This review analyses the economic and organisational benefits of an integrated lifecycle approach to biomedical equipment management. Methodology: A narrative literature review was conducted using PubMed, IEEE Xplore and Scopus databases, including 15 relevant studies published between 2019 and 2023. Results: The analysis reveals that adopting a strategic lifecycle management approach reduces total cost of ownership by 20-30%. Proactive maintenance generates significant savings through reduced downtime and optimised human resources. Emerging technologies (IoT, AI) amplify these benefits but require substantial initial investment. Conclusion: Transforming maintenance practices from reactive to strategic lifecycle management constitutes a major economic optimisation lever for healthcare institutions, with demonstrated return on investment within 3-5 years.
