Literature Review Of The Bullwhip Effect In Supply Chains: Causes, Impacts, And Mitigation Strategies

Authors : Amari Soumya . Azouaou Lamia .

Abstract

The objective of this literature review is to reconstruct the conceptual evolution of the Bullwhip effect, identifies operational ( forecasting errors, batching, delays) and behavioral causes ( decision biases), analyzes logistics impacts (costs increases, production instability, stockouts and deterioration of inter-organizational relationships). The study shows that effective mitigation requires an integrated approach that combines information sharing, decision coordination, and the use of advanced technologies such as AI, blockchain, and collaborative planning systems. The synthesis offers a structured approach to the bullwhip effect and offers avenues for future research on the empirical analysis of reduction strategies and decision-making processes in different industrial contexts.
