Abstract A single mother’s decision to keep or give up her child is a life-altering choice with profound psychological and social consequences for both the mother and the child; it places her within a complex social context that requires a high degree of adaptability to sustain the stability of the mother-child relationship. This article addresses the psychological and social challenges faced by single mothers and their children, and explores how coping mechanisms and psychological resilience contribute to managing stress and achieving a more positive outcome for both, by highlighting the pivotal role of psychological and social support and internal psychological resources. Methodologically, the study adopted a conceptual-analytical approach based on a review of the scientific literature on single motherhood, coping mechanisms, and psychological resilience.
