Augmented reality (AR) enhances environmental education through interactive and immersive learning, fostering sustainable behaviors. This study explores AR’s impact on Algerian youth, addressing technological, cultural, and infrastructural challenges. Findings highlight AR’s effectiveness in boosting engagement via gamification and simulations, aligning with Social Learning Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior. However, barriers such as device accessibility, internet limitations, and cognitive overload hinder adoption. The need for localized, culturally relevant content is critical. Future research should examine behavioral retention, compare AR with other digital tools, and advocate for policy integration in education. Overcoming these challenges can unlock AR’s potential as a transformative tool for promoting environmental awareness.
