Abstract

The current research sought to analyze self-confidence in studying mathematics among students at the Preparatory Studies Center at Sultan Qaboos University. Self-confidence in mathematics was analyzed and differences in it were investigated according to some variables. The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach, where a scale of self-confidence in mathematics was applied by Fennema and Sherman (1976), which was later developed in the study of Garro and Solano, and Castro and Ramírez (2023; Garro-Camacho & Solano-García, 2020). The research sample consisted of (33) male and female students. The results showed that the majority of the sample members were concentrated in the medium (57.6%) and high (36.4%) levels of self-confidence in mathematics. The results also showed that males tend to have a higher and more stable level of confidence compared to females, and that students who repeated the course three times showed a relatively higher level of confidence than others. In addition, there was a difference in averages between colleges. This variance was not statistically significant at the significance level (α = 0.05).
