Abstract: This study, entitled “E-commerce as a Modern Mechanism to Support Food Security: A Theoretical Approach,” aims to examine the role of e-commerce in supporting food security and enhancing the sustainability of food systems in light of contemporary digital transformations. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach by addressing the fundamental concepts and analyzing the relationship between e-commerce and food security. The findings indicate that e-commerce contributes significantly to facilitating market access, improving the distribution of food products, reducing the role of intermediaries, and expanding consumers’ access to food. Furthermore, it helps reduce food waste, improve inventory management, and utilize data analytics for demand forecasting. On the other hand, the study highlights several challenges, including the digital divide, weak infrastructure, cybersecurity risks, and disruptions in supply chains. Ultimately, the study concludes that e-commerce is not a substitute for food policies; rather, it serves as a supportive mechanism for achieving food security and enhancing the sustainability of food systems in the future.
