Authors : Louani Yamina .

Abstract

Abstract: The current study aims to demonstrate the close and significant relationship between the level of phonological awareness and reading difficulties among fourth-grade primary school students (without regard to gender) in the Algerian capital. The current study was conducted on a sample of 100 individuals of both sexes with reading difficulties. They were selected in accordance with the diagnostic criteria for developmental dyslexia from fourth-grade primary school in Algiers. Statistical analysis of the results revealed a significant correlation between the level of phonological awareness and dyslexia. The study concluded that phonological awareness is closely related to dyslexia, as it is considered the primary (but not the only) cause of dyslexia.
