Abstract

This study aims to analyze the chronological and conceptual evolution of the impact of digital social influence on travel decisions between 2008 and 2025. Using the PRISMA systematic review methodology and bibliometric analysis of 100 studies, the results revealed a radical shift from reliance on rational textual reviews to emotional influence from visual content and influencers. Trust, image, and the fear of missing out (FOMO) emerged as crucial mediating variables. The study concludes by identifying a research gap in the dark side of digital influence and in developing geographic contexts, while offering recommendations to destination managers to enhance digital credibility to address the challenges of artificial intelligence and the manipulation of reality.
