With the intensification of urbanization, the imperative to reconcile technological advancement with environmental preservation has become increasingly critical. This research integrates quantitative indicators such as CO2 emissions, air quality metrics (PM2.5, PM10), recycling rates, and resource consumption to assess the environmental impact of smart cities. If further analyzes how smart technologies enhance waste management efficiency and promote circular economy practices. The study aims to assess the extent to which emerging smart city initiatives in Algeria (particularly in Sidi Abdellah, Oran, and Constantine) can effectively support sustainable development objectives and mitigate pollution. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to a more comprehensive understanding of the environmental dimension of smart cities, an area often overlooked in existing literature that has predominantly focused on technological and infrastructural aspects.
