الملخص
خضعت الجزائر للحكم العثماني قرابة الثلاثة قرون أو ما يزيد، وقد كانت عبارة عن إيالة شبه مستقلة ذاتيا؛ فعرفت تطورا ملحوظا في شتى الميادين اقتصاديا وسياسيا واجتماعيا وبخاصة الميدان العسكري غير أن علاقاتها الخارجية كانت حرة فيها لا تمثلها تركيا فالعلاقة بين الجزائر وأمريكا مثلا توطدت أكثر بعد اعتراف الجزائر باستقلال أمريكا عن بريطانيا . والجزائر كانت آنذاك سيدة على البحر الأبيض المتوسط تفرض إتاوات على سفن المدن التي تمر بها مقابل حمايتها من القرصنة البحرية ، وهو ما جعلها مستهدفة من حملات بحرية كثيرة حتى من أمريكا نفسها التي طالما ساندتها وحمت سفنها. وهو ما أدى إلى وقوع حرب بن الجزائر وأمريكا وإن كانت دون معارك؛ فاستولت الجزائر على بواخر أمريكية في البحر المتوسط، وتم القبض على مجموعة من الأسرى، كان للجزائر مفاوضات مباشرة مع أمريكا في قضية تسليمهم. Abstract: Algeria was under Ottoman rule for nearly three centuries or more, and was a semi-autonomous province; It experienced remarkable development in various fields, including economic, political, and social, and especially military. However, its foreign relations were independent and not represented by Turkey. For example, relations between Algeria and the United States strengthened after Algeria recognized American independence from Britain. At that time, Algeria was the ruler of the Mediterranean Sea, imposing royalties on ships passing through its waters in exchange for protecting them from maritime piracy, which made it the target of many naval campaigns, even from the United States itself, which had always supported it and protected its ships. This led to a war between Algeria and America, albeit without fighting. Algeria seized American ships in the Mediterranean and captured a group of prisoners, and Algeria negotiated directly with America over their extradition.
