Abstract: The relationship between self and place is one of the most prominent issues raised by modern literature. Place transforms from a mere external framework for events into an active element in shaping the individual and collective identity of the characters. In Muhammad Ayman Hammadi's novel "Assassination by Roses," place manifests as a tense space reflecting the inner conflict between belonging and alienation, between dreams and disillusionment. Here, place is not a neutral space, but rather a mirror of social and political reality and a stage upon which the characters interact with their psychological and geographical surroundings, revealing their fragility or strength, their capacity to adapt or their resistance to transformations. Hence, our central question is: How does the dialectic of self and place in Muhammad Ayman Hammadi's "Assassination by Roses" contribute to highlighting the characters' internal and external conflict? Is place presented as a support for identity or a space of alienation and fragmentation?
