The Symbolic Presence Of Algerian Revolutionary Figures In Contemporary Arabic Poetry

The Algerian revolution represented a great revolutionary momentum for the Arab nation in confronting its enemies, and an Arab miracle in regaining sovereignty, dignity and pride. Faced with its greatness, Algerian poetic creativity in particular and Arab poetic creativity in general exploded, responding to its events and interacting with its epic. Its heroic deeds, martyrs and places of heroism were transformed into legendary symbols invoked by the contemporary Arab poet to diagnose the ailing reality of the nation. The Algerian revolution was able to give birth to figures whose stances, heroism, sacrifices and courage transformed them into symbols indicating the qualities of greatness and pride they were known for, such as Didouche Mourad, Larbi Ben M'hidi, Mustafa Ben Boulaid and the beautiful female fighters. Thus, contemporary Arabic poetry, which employs the Algerian revolutionary symbol, including the symbol of revolutionary figures, carries multiple symbolic connotations that embody the contemporary Arab poetic experience and the suffering of the poetic self in confronting tyranny and authoritarianism. Hence, the symbolism of the Algerian revolution, both in terms of its people and its geography, conveyed multiple symbolic connotations, such as sincere will, rejection, resistance, rebellion, resurrection, sacrifice, and other connotations.
