Time and the representations of night represent one of the most compelling issues, stemming from their intimate ties to the human existence. This is clearly reflected in the large number of studies and research devoted to uncovering their depth and resonance in the voices of writers and poets. Though the concept of time is constant in its essence, the way it has been approached and perceived has varied significantly from one writer to another and from one poet to another, particularly in the context of pre-Islamic poetry. The pre-Islamic poet did not perceive the night as merely a chronological span of time stretching from dusk to dawn; rather, he approached it as a symbolically charged period bearing deep spiritual significance. Accordingly, night became intimately a free and open space for reflection and expression of inner emotions. While some poets found in the night a means to articulate their feelings of distress, suffering, and deep sorrow, others experienced it as sanctuary for inner peace and the recollection of cherished memories and joyful moments.
