This research examines the legal and economic implications of geopolitical conflicts on shipping traffic through key maritime chokepoints, with a particular focus on the Suez Canal and the Strait of Hormuz as case studies. It analyzes the impact of various geopolitical disturbances on global supply chains, oil prices, and shipping rates, and assesses the effectiveness of the international legal framework governing maritime navigation in addressing these issues. The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach, a case study framework, and quantitative analysis of statistical data related to shipping activity and oil prices. Observations suggest that geopolitical frictions cause significant disruptions to the flow of high-cost goods and test the effectiveness of various international laws. To address these challenges, the study proposes several solutions, including strengthening and improving maritime security, developing alternative infrastructure, enhancing and strengthening diplomacy, reviewing and revising the legal framework, and fostering international cooperation to address these issues. Ultimately, the research concludes that improving the security of key maritime chokepoints is impossible without establishing joint international measures that contribute to the sustainability and stability of global trade.
