Abstract

This study examines the mediating role of organizational trust in the relationship between organizational transparency and the three types of employee silence: acquiescent silence, defensive silence, and pro-social silence, among university professors, represented by the faculty members of the Faculty of Economics, commercial sciences, and Management Sciences at Setif 1 University. The sample size consisted of 151 professors from the same faculty. Structural Equation Modeling using Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses. The results showed that acquiescent silence is the only type of silence affected by both organizational transparency and organizational trust with a full mediation from organizational trust. In contrast, the other two types of silence, defensive silence and pro-social silence, were not affected by either organizational transparency or organizational trust, neither directly nor through mediation.
