Abstract: This study analyzes Algeria’s energy transition in light of its international legal obligations regarding climate change and energy security. As a hydrocarbon-reliant state, Algeria faces the dual challenge of preserving energy sovereignty while fulfilling its commitments under the Paris agreement. The research explores legal and institutional reforms, including constitutional changes and national legislation promoting sustainable energy. It also examines Algeria’s nationally determined contribution (NDC) and its efforts in deploying renewable energy and green hydrogen. The findings reveal that Algeria’s energy transition is increasingly influenced by international climate governance and the need for legal coherence.
