Freedom of expression in Algeria is restricted to protect public order, morality, ethics, and religious sanctities, requiring that it be exercised without jeopardizing national security, social peace, or the honor and dignity of individuals, in accordance with legal and religious frameworks derived from Islamic law and the Algerian Constitution of 2020. These restrictions include prohibitions on infringing upon Islamic sanctities, places of worship, and hate speech targeting national constants, with penalties imposed on violators, thereby ensuring a balance between individual rights to expression and the protection of public interest, ethical values, and the religious and social constants of society.
