This study examines the dynamics of ethnic conflicts in Africa, focusing on causal variables and conflict-related actors. It explores how political marginalization, resource scarcity, and historical grievances fuel ethnic tensions, emphasizing the role of state and non-state actors in exacerbating or mitigating violence. Employing qualitative analysis integrated with quantitative data, the research incorporates comprehensive theoretical frameworks including Primordialism, Instrumentalism, and Constructivism to analyze case studies from Rwanda, South Sudan, and Kenya. Findings reveal that ethnic conflicts are often politicized, with weak institutional frameworks and external interventions further destabilizing regions. The study underscores the need for inclusive governance and robust conflict-resolution mechanisms to address root causes while providing a forward-looking analysis of future trends in African ethnic conflicts.
