Authors : Ben Charef Sakina . Chelli Saliha .

Abstract

The present study seeks to investigate EFL Master two students’ perceptions towards fostering the empowerment of independent inquiry in academic research. It expounds how these perceptions enhance or hinder their involvement in research activities focusing on aspects such as students’ understanding of autonomy, their self-confidence, teacher-supervisor roles, stages of research, and the interaction between supervisees and supervisors. Using a quantitative approach, the study administered a structured questionnaire to 40 master two students in the English Department at Mohamed Khieder University of Biskra. Data were coded inserted, and analysed using SPSS version 26, ensuring systematic, reliable examination of attitudes towards research autonomy. The findings of this study reveal a strong and statistically significant positive correlation (r = 0.883, p < .001) observed among EFL master students which supports rejecting the null hypothesis and confirms that these students have a significant perception of autonomy in conducting research.
