Authors : Turqui Barkat .

Abstract

The present research work analyses the challenges that might face the foreign language teacher in the utilization of group work activities in crowded classes within a TEFL context. Hence, it is hypothesized that the teaching process would be hindered by a number of difficulties namely, students’ low motivation, allocation of time, suitable material, and class management. Contrarily, the principal objective of the investigation is to propose some solutions through the careful and proficient application of successful cooperative learning with group work activities. The attainment of this objective is expected to realize multiple benefits such as, to higher students’ motivation in the pedagogical material, develop a sense of responsibility and solidarity, and possibly reflecting on the learning experiences in group work and relate them to issues and defiance in the out-of-class world. A descriptive research methodology has been adopted, and an online interview has been addressed to a number of English Studies teachers at tertiary level as a research tool. The preliminary outcomes demonstrate the tangible possibility of the successful application of group work in large classes and the multiple and various advantages that can be grasped out of such activities.
