The Concept Of Security In Religious Thought A Study Of The Dimensions Of Human Security In Islam

Authors : Douib Laid .

Abstract

The phenomenon of security is considered one of the most complex issues at the international, national, and individual levels. According to Abraham Maslow, the issue of security comes first in the hierarchy of needs. And while human thought gives great priority to the issue of security, religious laws were the earliest to address the question of security and its dimensions. This study comes as an attempt to present the concept of security in religious thought and to highlight the status of the human being as granted by religious laws—considering the human person as the cornerstone of societal structures on the one hand, and as the divinely appointed steward on earth on the other. This is especially true when it comes to Islamic religious thought, which is regarded as the final and most comprehensive of the religious laws, and the one that lays the foundations for the system of human life as a whole.
