This paper aims at analyzing the role of Chinese FDI in Africa, with a focus Nigeria as an applied model because it is one of the major benefiters of such investment. In so doing, the study relies on the comparative analytical method based on the available statistics and numbers on the size and distribution of Chinese investments compared to the traditional partners, such as USA and EU. Findings show that the Chinese investments developed the infrastructure, promoted trade, and fostered economic growth. However, they raised challenges regarding foreign indebtedness, low economic diversity, and risks of economic dependency. Besides, the Chinese presence in Africa is an opportunity to boost growth and update if good local policies and a good debt management are put in place to ensure sustainable benefits.
