In a context marked by globalization and economic volatility, risk management has become a strategic imperative for Algerian financial institutions. This study examines the role of Economic Intelligence (EI) as a governance and risk-control instrument within the Algerian banking sector. Adopting a qualitative analytical approach, the research identifies and analyzes the country’s major banking risks—credit, operational, liquidity, market, and compliance risks—and explores how their management can be strengthened through EI practices. The findings reveal that EI, through mechanisms such as strategic monitoring, information security, Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, and anticipatory analysis, enables banks to shift from a reactive to a proactive risk management model. Empirical evidence, notably from the National Bank of Algeria (BNA) case, highlights that credit risk, which accounts for more than 50% of total banking exposure (Bank of Algeria, IMF), can be mitigated through informed decision-making and portfolio diversification. Ultimately, the integration of EI enhances resilience, transparency, and stakeholder confidence, aligning Algerian banking governance with international prudential and intelligence-based standards.
