الملخص

تتناول هذه الدراسة موضوع دور الجمعيات الجغرافية في التأثير على تسميات المناطق في غرب ووسط إفريقيا خلال القرن التاسع عشر حيث تم التطرق إلى الأسماء الأصلية للمناطق الإفريقية، ودور المستكشفين في استبدال تسمياتها المحلية بأسماء مستحدثة، سواء ما تعلق بالبلدان أو المناطق الطبيعية كالبحيرات والأنهار والشلالات في إفريقيا وفي الأخير تم التوصل إلى جملة من النتائج تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط الضوء على الجمعيات الجغرافية و المستكشفين الأوروبيين وإبراز دورهم في إعادة تسمية المناطق في إفريقيا، واستبدال أسمائها الأصلية بأسماء جديدة كلمات مفتاحية: مستكشفين، جمعيات جغرافية، منابع النيل، إفريقيا، مستعمرات Abstract: This study deals with the role of geographical societies in influencing the naming of regions in West and Central Africa during the nineteenth century, focusing on the original names of African regions and the role of explorers in replacing their local names with new names, whether related to countries or natural areas such as lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. This study aims to clarify the role of geographical societies and European explorers in renaming regions in Africa and to replace their original names with new Keywords: explorers, geographical societies, headwaters of the Nile, Africa, colonies
