How Parents Shape A Depressed Adolescent: Between Cold Treatment And Excessive Involvement ? Parenting Styles According To Enro’s Theory

Authors : Cherair Kawther .

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to examine the differences in parenting styles and the emergence of depression among adolescents, based on Enro's tripartite classification of parenting patterns, with a focus on adolescence as a critical developmental stage. The study was conducted in the field on a sample of 225 male and female adolescents in the Blida province. A parenting style questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were used as assessment tools. The results indicated that the moderate parenting style was the most prevalent among both fathers and mothers, while the warm and cold styles appeared with lower frequencies. Hypothesis testing revealed statistically significant differences between parenting styles and levels of adolescent depression. The study concluded by emphasizing the importance of balance in family upbringing and the need for parents to be aware of their educational approaches, avoiding both excessive harshness and overprotection.
