Health and disease are phenomena that have received great attention from doctors and wise men since ancient times in an effort to preserve the first and address the second. These phenomena have not remained with doctors but have moved to anthropologists to try to understand the various structures that form around these phenomena in societies through customs, traditions, beliefs, religion, and rituals. Our paper aims to shed light on the role of medical anthropology in understanding representations of health and disease. We defined some concepts related to the subject, then touched on the genesis and evolution of medical anthropology, health, and disease through social customs, popular beliefs, religion and rituals, and cultural values.
