Authors : Azayez Djalal .

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the Directorate of Tourism and Traditional Industry in Chlef Province. Data were collected from 40 employees using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS, considering two main variables and their associated dimensions. The results indicate that all dimensions of GIS usage recorded mean values above 3, with high t-values and statistical significance (p < 0.05), supporting the alternative hypothesis (H1) and rejecting the null hypothesis (H0). The findings reveal that the Directorate possesses the necessary technical equipment, utilizes GIS-based software and applications, and incorporates various geographic data in its projects. However, GIS usage for marketing tourist landmarks remains limited and ineffective, primarily restricted to statistical reporting and investment planning rather than serving as a strategic promotional tool. The study emphasizes the need to enhance GIS integration to improve tourism management and marketing practices, enabling more effective promotion of tourist landmarks and strategic decision-making.
