Among some vital components of effective language teaching, textbooks, as pedagogical materials, are deemed as nucleus of the teaching and learning process. It is widely acknowledged that several foreign language textbooks are clustered as ideological, representing the cultural and moral values of different nations. This study attempts to display a critical look at the representation of Algerian national identity in the third-year middle school English textbook. Corpus and content analysis were employed to examine the themes that are used in perpetuating ideas about nationalism. A questionnaire that was administered to 15 middle school teachers of English constituted secondary data for this study. The results revealed that a plethora of national and local matters are taught in the textbook analyzed. Besides, the textbook seems to accentuate the importance of teaching some core national values, including commitment to maintain traditional values. Hence, nationalism is, to a considerable extent, imparted in the EFL textbooks.
