Abstract This study explores the remnants of the Granadian dialect through the lyrical texts of Algerian Andalusian music and its unique performance style, which characterizes the Algerian school with itsthree branches: Gharnati, Sanaa, and Malouf. These schools trace their roots to the final musical tradition of Andalusia—the Kingdom of Granada. The Granadian dialect, considered the last Andalusian dialect, unified the linguistic features of previous dialects and is marked by distinctive traits such as tilting, diminutives, and letter order. These features can still be sensed in the texts and musical performances of contemporary Algerian tarab. The dialect significantly influenced North African varieties, particularly in Algeria, where thousands of Granadian immigrants settled, founding cities and neighborhoods that preserved their linguistic and cultural heritage.
