Algeria faces growing challenges in managing its water resources due to the continuous increase in population and the escalating demand for water. This study aims to analyze the relationship between demographic growth and the decline in per capita water resources through an econometric model for the period 2000-2023, using the ARDL model. The results indicate that population growth negatively impacts per capita water availability, with a statistically significant inverse relationship between the two variables. In both the short and long terms, the study reveals that an increase in population leads to an immediate reduction in per capita water availability. Consequently, the study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive strategy for sustainable water resource management, considering demographic dimensions through diversifying water sources, developing consumption-saving technologies, and improving water sector governance at both the local and national levels.
