This study explores the different types of teacher talk in classroom interactions, utilizing Flanders’ Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS) as a framework to describe and analyze these types in a third-year middle school class. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through classroom observations and teacher interviews to gain deeper insight into teachers' choices regarding interaction and language use. The findings showed that various types of teacher talk were used in varying degrees, with indirect talk being more prevalent than direct talk. This led to greater student engagement in classroom interactions. The study provides valuable guidance for middle school teachers on how to select appropriate types of talk to promote more student interaction in the classroom.
