Authors : Benabdeslam Chafiaa . Djemah Nouara .

Abstract

The article examines the role of entrepreneurship support structures at the University of Bejaïa, within Algeria’s push for economic diversification and innovation. It focuses on the Entrepreneurship Development Center (CDE) and the university incubator, evaluating their effectiveness in supporting startups and SMEs from the academic sphere. While Algeria promotes entrepreneurial universities, the actual impact of these structures is understudied. A survey of students and project leaders shows mixed outcomes: the CDE is viewed positively for its engagement, but the incubator faces challenges, including insufficient funding, inadequate training, and poor integration with the local economy. Notably, 55% of students are unaware of available support mechanisms. The study advocates for a comprehensive overhaul of the support structures, coupled with enhanced collaboration with economic stakeholders and the implementation of hybrid mentoring that integrates both public and private sectors. These measures are critical to fostering a robust and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Bejaïa, driving innovation and economic growth.
