Anxiety In Efl Classrooms At The Tertiary Level: Insights Into Causes And Remedies From Learners’ Viewpoints

Abstract
This study explores the causes of anxiety in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms and how learners respond to it, focusing on student perspectives. A questionnaire was distributed to 48 Master’s students at the University of Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia in Jijel. The results indicate that a significant number of students experience anxiety in EFL settings. The primary sources of this anxiety include fear of making mistakes and a lack of self-confidence. To manage their anxiety, students commonly rely on strategies such as self-encouragement and rehearsal.
