The Image Of God In Naruto Anime - A Semiotic Study -

Authors : Hemal Siham . Chergui Ismail .

Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted representations of the god in the anime Naruto from philosophical, religious, and mythological perspectives. It highlights how Masashi Kishimoto was inspired by East Asian spiritual and cultural traditions. The philosophical dimension appears through characters like Nagato and Madara, who seek god-like authority, raising questions about absolute power, free will, and fate. Religiously, the anime integrates Shinto and Buddhist concepts, rituals, and techniques such as Amaterasu, Susanoo, Izanagi, the Six Paths, and reincarnation. Mythologically, it blends Japanese, Chinese, and Korean symbols like the Kyūbi, the Tailed Beasts, and the legend of Jiraiya. The study concludes that Naruto is not just entertainment but a deep cultural narrative that reimagines divine imagery across multiple dimensions.
