Covid-19, New Practices In Speech Therapy

Authors : Makhloufi Amel .

Abstract

Speech therapy targeted at COVID-19 patients, in the acute or chronic phase, is carried out in the framework of multidisciplinary care; this is based on the speech-language assessment that guides the formulation of a speech therapy diagnosis and a tailored therapeutic plan. These interventions are aimed at addressing complications associated with intensive care, such as post-intubation dysphonia and dysphagia, neuromyopathy acquired in intensive care units, and the management of tracheostomy weaning. In addition, they target neurological sequelae of the viral infection, including anosmia-ageusia, cognitive deficits, and disorders that impair language and communication functions. This article aims to identify the various effects that COVID-19 may have on the speech-therapy main areas, and, accordingly, identify the appropriate rehabilitation methods.
