Hosting mega sporting events has become a strategic avenue for economic growth and infrastructural development. This study examines the economic and infrastructural impacts of the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria, focusing on both short- and long-term effects and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Using a mixed-method approach, data were collected from 300 respondents through purposive and simple random sampling, employing self-administered questionnaires, interviews, and secondary sources. Descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and correlation techniques were applied for data analysis. Findings revealed significant short-term economic benefits, particularly in tourism and local business investments. A strong positive correlation (r=0.72, p<0.05) was found between event-driven infrastructural improvements and local economic development. Key infrastructure upgrades included transport and accommodation, enhancing Oran’s international reputation. However, challenges such as financial constraints, underutilization of infrastructure, and limited stakeholder engagement in strategic planning were identified. The study underscores the need for sustainable event planning to maximize long-term benefits.
