The policy adopted by the French administration in Morocco was not far removed from what it implemented in Algeria, particularly concerning religion and identity, aiming to undermine and divide society along religious and ethnic lines. The Berber policy, through which France sought to fragment Moroccan society into Berber and Arab components, ultimately failed due to the cohesion within Moroccan society, stemming from the unifying influence of Islam. This cohesion was further bolstered by the national elite's resistance to the French project and its colonial policies, which aimed at dividing Moroccan society.
