This research study seeks to examine the impact of metacognitive reading strategy (MCRS) instruction on the reading comprehension of second year (L2) EFL students enrolled at Tlemcen University. The quasi-experimental research method is implemented, precisely the non-equivalent control group design via the use of tests and a survey, in order to assess the effectiveness of teaching MCRS on a treatment group. Results, following the intervention, highlighted remarkable progress in both the comprehension of textual materials and analytical skills among participants, even those with poor reading abilities, which affirms the significance of MCRS, thus confirms the proposed hypotheses. This study, therefore, serves to strongly emphasize the pivotal role of effective MCRS instruction in enhancing university students’ reading comprehension across a variety of academic texts.
