Résumé : This study explores the challenges encountered in implementing the digital education model at Algerian universities during the COVID-19 pandemic, which, like the rest of the world, affected Algeria significantly. The pandemic forced higher education institutions to adopt alternative strategies as a necessary response to the changing circumstances. Due to the preventive measures enforced by the government to curb the virus’s spread, all activities, including education, were required to adhere to social distancing guidelines and transition to digital education as a new model. This transition aimed to ensure the continuity of the educational process within Algerian universities. Consequently, the adoption of modern technological tools for remote communication became a major priority for Algeria's higher education sector, aiming to enhance university education while also addressing the challenges brought about by the pandemic. The need to shift from traditional face-to-face education to virtual learning through digital communication platforms, integrated into university websites, became urgent. However, the reality on the ground revealed several challenges that impeded the effective implementation of digital education. This new experience in Algerian universities was accompanied by a range of obstacles that hindered the achievement of the intended educational outcomes envisioned by virtual education policies.
