Sustainable Urban Mobility In A Medium-sized Mountain Town: Case Of The Town Of Tizi-ouzou

Abstract

Faced with rapid urbanization, mobility in Tizi-Ouzou has become a major challenge. The increase in the vehicle fleet and the intensification of travel exacerbate the imbalance between transport supply and demand, mainly due to the lack of public transportation. Despite the implementation of ETUSTO, a multimodal station, intermediate stations, and a cable car, traffic congestion persists. This study questions the existence of a genuine transport policy by relying on surveys, field visits, and documents from the DTWTO. For sustainable development, reducing car use in favor of public transport and soft mobility is essential to improving the quality of life in the city center.
