Abstract Plastic waste is attracting more and more interest because of the environmental, health and economic challenges they present for the community. However, the recovery of this waste is capable to transform these challenges into an opportunity for the development of a territory, especially in the economic field, which interests us particularly in this contribution. The latter aims to present the environmental, social and economic benefits of the recovery of plastic waste in Tizi-Ouzou. For this, we conducted semi-directed interviews with the stakeholders involved in this activity. Our empirical results show that a promising dynamic is observed in this area with significant effects, especially in terms of job creation and reduction of the amount of waste to be transferred to landfill sites or public landfills. This study has also show that this activity is in full development but problematic due mainly to the complexity of this matter and the craft practices developed at the local level.
