The Wheat Sector In Algeria Facing The Challenges Of Food Security

Abstract
Was it necessary for the war in Ukraine to break out so that the concept of food security would have a more impactful dimension on most countries, especially those that depend on imports of strategic products such as wheat? Wheat has long been considered the primary food source for Algerians, since it weighs heavily in quantity and quality in the Algerian food system. Wheat, which provides bread, the staple food of the Algerian diet, suffers from insufficient production due to several factors including two limiting factors: water and soil. Hence massive imports cover the necessary needs; Through this article we will try to trace the challenges that are multiple and often complex, challenges to be met in the years to come to ensure a certain level of food security.
