University Graduates In Algeria: What Future Awaits Them Amid Escalating Unemployment?

Authors : Noui Fatma .

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the challenges faced by young graduates and higher degree holders in Algeria by meticulously analyzing and interpreting a plethora of data pertaining to higher education outputs and the labor market's capacity to assimilate and employ these individuals. A constellation of factors has magnified this issue, predominantly attributed to a decrement in strategic educational planning. The emergence of the graduate phenomenon coincided with a lack of authentic alignment between higher education planning and the local market's demands, culminating in elevated unemployment rates among Algerian university graduates. This issue is further compounded by a discernible degradation in the quality of university education, highlighting the imperative for substantial reforms in higher education. Such reforms are crucial as they play a pivotal role in propelling the social and economic advancement of the nation, necessitating the development of a workforce that is both qualified and adept at meeting the exigencies of the contemporary labor market.
