This study aimed to evaluate the impact of cash leakage on the ability of banks to expand lending, utilizing the money multiplier and cash leakage values. The study incorporated the cash leakage to M2 ratio and the volume of loans granted to the economy. Drawing on data and reports from the Bank of Algeria, a simple regression model was developed for the study variables. The findings revealed a strong negative impact of cash leakage on the money multiplier, subsequently affecting banks' capacity to expand credit. This underscores the necessity for policymakers in monetary policy to reduce cash leakage through the adoption of financial technology and financial inclusion initiatives.
